How to track supplier price changes
A practical guide to comparing old and new Excel or CSV price lists with Pricer.
Open the free price list comparison tool1. Keep the old list and add the new one
Upload your current and updated supplier price lists as .xlsx or CSV files. Match the product ID and purchase cost columns. Add current retail prices and monthly sales quantities to calculate the profit impact.
2. Review price increases and decreases
Pricer matches products by exact SKU and shows old and new costs side by side. Check new or missing products and review duplicates, currency changes and pack changes before using the totals.
3. Prioritize the changes that affect profit
A large percentage increase on a rarely sold item may matter less than a small increase on a bestseller. Sort your decisions around the monthly gross profit impact and try a target margin to see the required retail price.
Example: what does a supplier price increase cost?
If a product's purchase cost rises from $12.00 to $13.80 and you sell 80 units per month, monthly gross profit falls by $144.00 when your retail price and sales volume stay the same.
Gross profit change = (old cost − new cost) × quantity sold
This is a scenario, not a sales forecast. It does not include changes in demand, shipping, fees or taxes.
Keep a record for the next price update
Download an Excel or CSV report for your records. Save the comparison as a file to reopen it later, or use optional account storage. When a supplier sends another update, start a new comparison using the previous and latest lists.
Common questions
Can I compare price lists without creating an account?
Yes. Importing files, comparing prices and downloading reports work without registration. An account is optional for cloud saves.
Does Pricer monitor supplier websites automatically?
Pricer compares files you upload. It does not fetch supplier prices, monitor websites or send automatic price alerts.
Can I compare prices without sales quantities?
Yes. You can see cost changes without sales quantities. Products with unknown quantities are excluded from monetary profit totals instead of being counted as zero.
Are my supplier price lists uploaded?
Guest comparisons are processed in your browser. Your price lists are uploaded only when you choose Save to account.
